NEW REAR UNDERRUN PROTECTION AFTER UNECE R58-03

THE NEW UNDERRUN PROTECTION SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASES TRAFFIC SAFETY

As of 1 September 2021, all newly homologated trucks and trailers over 3.5t of type classes N2, N3, O3, O4 must be equipped exclusively with rear underrun protection that complies with UNECE R58-03.

In the event of a collision, this rear underrun protection prevents smaller vehicles (cars, two-wheeled vehicles) or people from becoming trapped – thanks to the new directive, serious consequences of accidents will be averted in advance! The mounting dimensions for the rear underrun protection have been revised and the forces that must be absorbed to obtain the new UNECE R58-03 approval have been almost doubled to 18t (previously 10t) compared to the old directive.
